The 4th Asian Regional Conference, Participatory Irrigation Management, Tehran, IRAN, 2 – 5 May, 2007
6/7/2005
It is my honor to announce that Iran will host the Fourth Asian Regional Conference of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage on the theme of "Participatory Irrigation Management" in May, 2007. Irrigation plays such a vital role in this part of the world that can change the productivity rate from zero to one hundred percent. Therefore, optimal use of water resources for agriculture is essential for sustainable irrigation. Without considerable developments in farmers' education and organizing water users associations, it is impossible to gain a desirable achievement in this field. Unsuccessful experience of the countries in transferring governmental responsibilities to the farmers regardless generating the required capacities, proves that in order to have a successful management transfer, creating a better future prospective for farmers is an essential necessity. At the end, I expect that the results of the Fourth Asian Regional Conference in Tehran promote suitable strategies in compliance with activating farmers to hold further responsibilities for water distribution management.
